Training Programs
Overseas
The Centre develops and runs training programs overseas,
most recently the Parents in Transition Course which focuses
on the effects of forced migration loss and trauma on infants
young children and their families. Parents in Transition was
established in response to growing concern about the impact
of migration loss and trauma on child rearing particularly of
infants and young children. The migration of parents and
children across countries and continents is one of the key
issues of our time. The effects of this dispersal on
parenting child rearing and nurturing have yet to be
estimated and may influence family life for subsequent
generations. Research confirms that the preconditions for
relationship disturbance and breakdown in later life are
established in the first years of life. Therefore the focus
of the training is on professionals who work with infants and
young children up to the age of five years and their
parents.
Where Has The Training Taken
Place?
Parents in Transition has been run in the Middle East
primarily in Israel for Arab as well as Israeli participants.
Workshops have also been run for professional groups in the
Palestinian Authority. In Australia the Centre has run a
Parents in Transition training program for the Red Cross.
